The Elder Scrolls 6is one of the most anticipated games in development, even though players know next to nothing about it or what it will entail. Pretty much allElder Scrollsfans have to go in is a logo that Bethesda showed at E3 a couple of years ago, as nothing else has been revealed about the game in an official capacity. It’s unclear when moreElder Scrolls 6news will come, but a recent social media post by Bethesda has some fans buzzing that it may hint at the game’s setting.

The Elder Scrolls 6’s settingis one of the most hotly-debated aspects of the game, with fans looking for hints in past games as well as trying to decipher hidden clues from the teaser trailer. Some believe thatThe Elder Scrolls 6setting will be High Rock, whereas others think the game will be set in Valenwood. Others still think thatThe Elder Scrolls 6setting is Hammerfell, which is seemingly backed up by Bethesda’s post.

The official Elder Scrolls Twitter account has posted a map of theProvince of Skyrim, with the caption “Transcribe the past and map the future.” The map includes three candles on it, which some fans online think could be a hint about what to expect fromThe Elder Scrolls 6. “Hammerfell” is written above one of the candles, which is why some fans think that could very well be the setting for the new game.

SomeElder Scrollshave taken the “map the future” caption to mean thatThe Elder Scrolls 6setting is indeed being teased by the social media post, and that the candles are the key to it. One of the candles is positioned on Solitude, Skyrim’s capital, whereas another candle is setting off the map itself and on a box of some kind. So the theory is one candle representsElder Scrolls' present, another the franchise’s past, and the other the franchise’s future. According to the theory, the future is represented by the candle sitting next toHammerfell.

Then again, it’s possible that fans have this backwards. Maybe the Hammerfell candle is representingThe Elder Scrolls' past, asThe Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfallfeatured Hammerfell as one of its locations. If so, then the candle that’s hanging off the map would represent the future, which would seem to indicate that fans will have to wait for some more substantial evidence before they can figure outThe Elder Scrolls 6’s location. It’s also possible that fans are reading way too much into this post and it doesn’t really mean anything of significance.

Unfortunately, it may be quite some time beforeThe Elder Scrolls 6fans know where the next game in the series will take place. Bethesda is currently working on theopen world sci-fi RPGStarfield, and that’s expected to launch beforeElder Scrolls 6. Considering this, it may be many more years before more substantial information becomes available.

The Elder Scrolls 6is in development for unspecified platforms.
