Throughout the course of Netflix’sThe Witcher,Geralt of Riviastands against a number of frightening and deadly monsters, including a Kikimora, a Striga, and more. Indeed, the moments featuring these creatures are among the most exciting in the series, andThe Witcherwriter Declan de Barra recently shared another one of these moment that was pitched but did not end up making it into the show.

Specifically, de Barra indicates that he pitched a scene forThe WitcherEpisode 4wherein Geralt would have been swallowed by a monster known as a Selkie Maw. The White Wolf was then to cut himself free from the inside of the beast, only to be chased by “squirming baby Selkie Maws,” and while fans get a glimpse of the fallout of this confrontation in the episode, the battle itself is totally absent.

Additionally, de Barra shared a sketch he made of the Selkie Maw, which he suggests was presented alongside the original pitch. This sketch can be seen below, and it depicts the Selkie Maw as a massive beast with a myriad of legs, deadly-looking teeth, and two forked-tongues. While it is difficult to know exactly how this sketch would have been rendered for the show, some fans are sure to captivated by the drawing, and perhaps they will see it brought to life inThe WitcherSeason 2.

With respect to why the Selkie Maw did not make it into this season ofThe Witcher, that is not currently known. However, unlike de Barra’s creature, the monsters that do appear in the series are all featured in Andrzej Sapkowski’snovels, and perhapsThe Witchershowrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrichultimately felt it best for this aspect of the show to stick close to the source material.

Alternatively, it may have been that the battle with the Selkie Maw simply did not fit well within the context ofThe Witcher’s fourth episode. For better or worse, this episode is when the show’s complex timeline really begins to come into focus, and dedicating screen time to such a fight may not have served that goal well. That said, it is still fun to get a peek at moreThe Witchercontent, even if it did not make it into the show, and seeing de Barra’s sketch is indeed a real treat.
