Pets and companions have been a mainstay in theBorderlandsseries, in one form or another. WithTiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Gearbox went all-in too.
Three of the six available classes inTiny Tina’s Wonderlandshave companionsof some sort, and if players dual-class into two of them, they can run around with two of them. These include the Spore Warden’s Mushroom companion, the Clawbringer’s Wyvern companion, and the Graveborn’s Demi-Lich. It’s not surprising, then, to see one of the best elements ofBorderlands 3’s companions make its way over toWonderlands.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Companion Appearance Change Explained
It’s easy to look over, but the Mushroom, Wyvern, and Demi-Lich’s appearance changes to match the player’s created character.Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands’ character creatorallows players to change the color, outfit, and patterns of their armor, and this will also impact those very same elements in the companion. It’s a small feature, but it goes to show the connection between the character and companion, a nice touch that helps define the classes and characters.
It should be noted that there is a bug inTiny Tina’s Wonderlandsthat changes the appearance of the companion when players go through a loading screen. This could explain why some may not realize this right away, but hopefully, it’s something that is fixed rather soon. It helps bring the overall character and roleplaying to life, which is vital in any RPG.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Companions vs. Borderlands 3 Companions
All of this comes fromBorderlands 3, too. The aforementioned companions and pets would change based on the appearance of theBorderlands 3character— Moze’s skins impacted Iron Bear and so on. It’s a little harder to tell with these companions, as it was with FL4K’s pets, but that design feature is still seen there and now inTiny Tina’s Wonderlands.
This feature is especially potent sinceTiny Tina’s Wonderlandsis based onDungeons and Dragons-esque fantasy. InDungeons and Dragons, a lot is left to the mind of the player: what their character looks like, how their weapons operate, and how they relate to their companions. WhatTiny Tina’s Wonderlandsdoes is bring these aspects of tabletop RPGs to life in a way that onlyaBorderlandsgamecould be seen.
Without a doubt, the franchise will continue to innovate on games likeBorderlands 3andTiny Tina’sWonderlands,and that’s a great thing. Even the smallest feature can go a long way in making a game all that more immersive.
