The following contains spoilers for Episode 6 of Tokyo Revengers, “Whip up morales”, now streaming onHulu.Tokyo Revengers Christmas Showdownis now halfway through. Episode 6 of 13 total completed the build-up for the actual events of this Christmas Showdown between the Black Dragon and the Tokyo Manji.
In such an eventful episode, it felt like the tension wasn’t managed good enough and had a good amount of forgettable scenes in the first 10 minute of the episode. TitledWhip up morale, tells the story of Takemichi’s poor attempt to stop Hakkai from killing his brother Taiju. Trying to reshape the future he allied with his worst enemy, Kisaki, broke up with the love of his life, Hina, and soon enough he will realize how mistake he was.

In Motion
Christmas Eve is now historyand everyone is getting ready for what’s coming on the night of December 25th. Episode 6 starts with Hakkai hyping up himself before heading to the church. At the same time, Taiju, leaves Kokonoi and Inui in charge of the gang temporarily to fully go on a spiritual retreat. Then Yuzuha appears to be just chilling at home, when she suddenly receives a mysterious text message that changes her mood completely. The idea was to show the three siblings moments ahead of the incident which will change their lives forever.
After that, a conversation between Inui and Kokonoi creates more expectation as it leaves the fans with more questions than answers.Something seems to be going on with Kokonoi, first he gave Taiju up willingly to Kisaki and offered any information they would possibly need. Now, in this cryptic conversation with Inui, they talk about how busy are they going to be tonight, knowing already what’s going to happen. Then, he asks Kokonoi what he plans to do and reminds him about his promise, but without specifying what’s all that about.
Suit Up And Face Hakkai
Probably one of the worsts aspects of the episode, a flashback to Chifuyu beating up a group of ToMan. Unclear the motive he had to fight with them, followed by Baji interrupting and another scene that could be a perfect replica of any other scene between the two.Baji asking Chifuyu to trust and follow himif he can’t get along with the others. All to say that Chifuyu will give Takemichi Baji’s sash.
Once finished with the ceremony, the four of them go to the Udagawa Christ Church. As planned,Takemichi will go insidewhile the other three try to stop Taiju from entering, and in doing so, perhaps defeat the leader of Black Dragon and crush the rival gang. As the series' hero opens the big wooden gates of the church, Hakkai stands by the altar waiting for Taiju when he hears a voice he didn’t expect.
A heated discussion between them started, Hakkai was incisive, saying how he didn’t tell him so he could stop him from doing it. Takemichi, used breaking up with Hina as an example of his willingness to do anything to protect the ones he cares about, like he is trying to do with Yuzuha. But not even thinking about crossing the line to commit a murder. It seemed that Takemichi was slowly convincing Hakkai when an unexpected turn shook things up.
Betrayal Upon Betrayal
Taiju entered the church. Shockingly, or maybe not that much, Kisaki betrayed them. He tied Chifuyu up and left. He plotted against them just for fun, and from the beginning, he always wanted Taiju to die. The joy from lying andplaying around with Takemichiand Chifuyu was enough for him to do. Despite their recent conversation, Hakkai charged at Taiju wielding a Tanto. However, Taiju stopped him effortlessly.
For the next few minutes, a succession ofTaiju choking Hakkai or Takemichiopaques the scene. Taiju going back to his hobby of beating up Takemichi shows another example of his twisted relationship with his brother saying how he expected a real murder attempt. He constantly repeats how he should attack him from the back and offers him an opportunity to stab him from the back, or he will beat Takemichi to death.
While Hakkai tries to decide, out of nowhere, Yuzuha shows up and actually stabs Taiju while he was choking Takemichi. Yet, Takemichi scream and face expression alerted Taiju enough, he was able to move slightly and avoid a critical hit. Her timing was also perfect, Taiju was about to reveal Hakkai’s secret, his real reason to kill him. Yuzuha knew from none other than Kisaki that this was going down, so she went to try to save his little brother.
Takemichi realizes that it was Yuzuha who killed Taiju in the original timeline. The only thing he changed with his presence was that she missed a vital point. Taiju hits Yuzuha and sends her flying. He starts crying as he wonders why God sends all this trouble his way, even to the point that he has to kill his sister. The episode ends without closing any of the plot lines. Nothing is said about Kokonoi, Hakkai’s secret or what will happen with the Shiba family.
