The latest anime-themed accessory has dropped, and this time it is both stylish and functional.Gundamfans can now buy a backpack that looks just like the back of the iconicGundamunits. Three different designs are launching for sale, and are being made by the officialGundamcreator Bandai Premium.
The look of the box on the back of theGundamunit lends itself quite well to a backpack design, but there is even more to the story of this accessory than that. InMobile Suit Gundam, there is a lot of time invested inexplaining the sciencebehind the mech units, and how they realistically could exist in our world. Now, these backpacks are bringing a very small part ofGundaminto existence and into our homes - after all, the life-size ones sadly aren’t for home use and individual sale.

Mobile Suit Gundamalso explained that the box on the back of the mech units that houses the thrusters and weapons was the units' “backpacks.” And now, we humans can have the samebackpack made just for our size, and to hold our own special things. We may not be keeping weapons and thrusters in there, but otaku will be able to keep all of their other belongings safe while looking stylish, too.
The three designs that have been made for now are all from the originalGundamseries, which is the perfect place to start. They are not only some of the most recognizable designs, but it also makes sense to start from the beginning of Bandai is planning to make more of these bags in the future. For now, the available designs are the RX-78-2 Gundam, the MS-06 Zaku II, and for fans of theantagonist, the MS-07B Gouf.
TheseGundambackpacks are actually even more useful than the real ones thehy are based off of, because they can be used two ways. Of course, they are meant to be worn first and foremost on your back, because that is what will make you look the most like aGundamunit. But because they have a top strap, they can also be used as a tote if that ismore your style. Don’t let yourself be held back by sticking to only the original design!
These backpacks will go on sale on theofficial Bandai Premium websitenext week on January 26th, and have the reasonable retail price of around $45USD. If you are looking for a classic anime backpack that will really make a statement and stick out in the crowd, these are the way to go. Plus, hopefully if they sell well Bandai will continue to make more designs with some newerGundammodels, too!
