Summary
Ascent is one of theOG maps inValorant. It has been in the game since the release of the game. Ascent is one of the generic and simple maps currently in the game. The map consists of A-site, B-site and a dedicated mid where players can diverge to either of the sites.
In addition, it is also a map that theValorantcommunity is divided about. Some players love the simplicity of the map, while others complain about its lanes and paper-like walls. Nevertheless, playershave to play Ascentwhen it shows up in the game and thus picking the right agent for their role is very crucial.

Sentinels are crucialto have in the team composition inValorant. They help in anchoring the site easily while defending and help in watching the flanks when attacking. For the Ascent map, Killjoy does this job brilliantly. While defending, her setup, specifically for the B-site, is very strong. Killjoy can set up her turret toward the B main to check any push and place the Nanoswarms along with Alarmbot in the B-lane to deal tonnes of damage to enemies trying to break into the site.
In addition, her ultimate, Lockdown, is very strong for retaking sites. She also has great prowess when attacking. Her Turret is a brilliant flank watcher, and she can also place her Alarmbot to keep backstabbers in check. Her Nanoswarms provide a lot of value while playing post-plant. KJ can either place the Nanoswarms near the spike or use line-ups, which are more effective.

Omen is currentlyone of the most picked controllers overallinValorant. Many pro players and top-tier players prefer playing Omen on Ascent other than other available controllers. His smokes are much easier to place on the map, and due to Omen’s mechanics, he can smoke off contact points from far distances. In addition, there are multiple spots on Ascent where players can exploit Omen’s smoke mechanics to create one-ways.

It will help to halt the push big time. His Shrouded Step ability helps with taking unexpected spots and catching enemies off-guard. His Paranoia ability is hard to dodge at a closer distance and is great for executing a push. His ultimate, From The Shadows, helps with fast rotation and can help a lot if the enemy’s rotation is read correctly.

Sova is the king of the initiator class inValorant, and rightfully so. His kit provides so much value on Ascent that it is a missed opportunity to pick any other initiator instead of him. The best thing about Sova is that this agent is much easier to play and has such a high ceiling. A perfectly placed Recon Dart can reveal all enemies on the site and help to decide whether to execute the site or change the approach.
Since Ascent has multiple choke points and tight spaces, his dart is very valuable in scouting these spaces before approaching them. His dart on the Heaven pillar on the A-site can help scout 90% of the site. For B-site, the tree above the double boxes can be used. Since the walls of Ascent are paper thin, players can pair Recon Bolt with high-penetrating weapons such asGuardian, Odin, Operator, etc.
His Shock Dart is also a great tool to flush out enemies in the multiple choke points and tight spaces. These Shock Darts started the whole line-up approach in Valorant. Sova has very simple line-ups for both sites on Ascent to play on line-ups post-plant. His ultimate ability, Hunter’s Fury, is great for clearing angles and halting defuses in the post-plant.
KAY/O is the most preferred agent for the flex role on Ascent. KAY/O is primarily an initiator agent inValorant, though hisprowess as the primary initiatoron Ascent is limited. However, in the flex role, he provides a lot of value. His signature ability, Zero/Point, suppresses enemies in the radius and forces them to rely on their raw aim skills. With this, he can disrupt defensive setups of Sentinels for site executions. In addition, KAY/O has one of the unique flashes in the game.
He can use underhand flashes, similar to what players use inCounter Strike, for quick peeks. His high overhead flashes, especially on this map, are valuable for catching enemies off-guard. His Frag/Ment molly helps with flushing out enemies from tight spots, such as logs on B-site, Pizza in mid, and tree toward A-site. It is also valuable for post-plants by utilizing the line-ups. Frag/ment can also be used to halt pushes. His ultimate, Null/cmd, is probably one of the best ultimate in Valorant. Anyone in the 42.5-meter radius will be suppressed and provided an enhanced fire rate and reload rate to KAY/O. It just makes entering sites and re-taking sites from enemies a lot easier.
Jett is the undisputedtop pick for the primary dueliston Ascent. Her ability to break into sites easily and disrupt the aims of enemies is unparalleled. Her Tailwind and Cloudburst combo is as great as peanut butter and jam. She can use Cloudburst to smoke out of spots and dash in to take spots.
The most commonly used is in the B main with smoking the switch in workshop and dashing there while checking logs to close the market gate. On A-site, her Tailwind, Cloudburst and Updraft combo is primarily used to get to the top of the generator. Ascent has multiple straight lanes where Jett can use the operator to get a lot of value.
Mid primarily is the place where most of the sniping takes place. The Blade Storm ultimate ability is the best offensive ults in Valorant. It is free of any movement errors, and Jett can just Updraft, dash, and run through enemies while popping enemy heads easily. The best thing is that it lets Jett players manage their economy and save for better weapons in the next round.
