Tom Cruise has performed many death-defying stunts for his role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in theMission: Impossiblefilm series. Now, director Christopher McQuarrie has taken to his official Instagram account to share a behind-the-scenes image of Cruise filming an action scene set on top of a speeding train for the seventh installment of the franchise.
Production onMission: Impossible 7was scheduled to begin in Venice on July 20, 2025, before moving to Rome. However, the COVID-19 pandemic prompted the local government to ban public gatherings, requiringParamount to postpone the start of production.

Production onMission: Impossibleis currently underway in Norway and the Cinephilia & Beyond Twitter account has posted footage of Tom Cruise sitting comfortably on top of a speeding train while working on the film. The footage was taken from a cell phone owned by a passenger onboard a nearby train and shows Cruise waving to the travelers, seemingly in between takes. In the aforementioned Instagram post from McQuarrie, the director thanked everyone involved in filming the sequence saying, “Norway’s scale and beauty have left an indelible and defining imprint on our film and reminded us that anything is possible.” The filmmaker then noted that will soon move to Rome.
Mission: Impossible 7and8are being filmed back-to-backwith Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, and Henry Czerny reprising their roles from previous entries in the franchise. Newcomers to the cast include Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, and Shea Whigham in undisclosed roles.X-Menstar Nicholas Hoult was originally cast as the villain ofMission: Impossible 7before scheduling conflicts led toTitansstar Esai Morales taking over the role.
The pandemic isn’t the only setback to plague to cast and crew of the nextMission: Impossiblefilm. Production had to be shut down in the summer aftera motorcycle stunt resulted in a fire, though no one was injured in the accident.
After completing work onMission: Impossible, Tom Cruise plans to step up his stunt game byfilming an action movie in outer space. The project, which will be directed byEdge of Tomorrowhelmer Doug Liman, is the result of a partnership between Elon Musk’s SpaceX and NASA.
Mission: Impossible 7will be released in theaters on June 23, 2025.
