Not all video games turn out to be fabulous ideas. In fact, some are downright weird. Something sets them apart from the rest, whether it’s their plot, game style, or origins. This tends to be the case when popular reality shows are made into games. While the shows do great, the games are a little strange, failing to live up to the world displayed in the shows.

John Luke Robertson and the crew in Duck Dynasty

While many fabulous TV shows have exceptional tie-in video games, thesereality show-based gamesdon’t quite fit into that category for one reason or another. These are some of the weirdestvideo games based on reality shows.

6Duck Dynasty

In the gameDuck Dynasty, players were given the opportunity to take on the role of John Luke Robertson, son of Willie, to begin learning the family trade. They lead John Luke through interactions with the crew and go on duck hunts and other escapades, such as frog hunting anddriving through swamps.

With the show being based mostly on whatever schemes the Robertson family was getting into that day, players could only expect the game to be something of a similar variety. While the show was wildly popular, the game strayed a little bit too much toward the weird side of things to be a big hit.

5Deadliest Catch: Sea Of Chaos

While the premise behindDeadliest Catch: Sea of Chaoswas a great idea based on the show’s massive popularity, the game was a bit weird and awkward. It attempted to recreate the competition of the show throughits various mini-games, but they quickly became quite repetitive, making the game a little on the boring side.

It’s definitely not like theaverage fishing game. Players captain their fishing boat in what’s supposed to be the Bering Sea, where they’re on the prowl for as many crabs as they can catch. That’s about all this oddball game had to offer, leaving fans longing for more experiences of the wild fishing from the show and better graphics that were more suited to the times.

4Wipeout: The Game

Wipeoutwas both popular as a reality TV show and as a video game, which was weird in and of itself. The show focused on contestants battling their way through agiant obstacle course. The goal was to make it through the course without falling victim to any of the obstacles. While the show was a demonstration of contestants' physical fitness and prowess, the video game was not.

However, the game was true to the concept of the TV show, with players having to fight their way through a game version of the course. Despite being released on the Wii and having the technology available, the creators opted not to include any physical activity on the part of the player. Regardless of this weird decision, the game was a hit and many loved it.

3American Idol

With the massive popularity of the showAmerican Idol, it was only natural that a video game would soon follow in its footsteps. However, this game took a turn for the weird when it didn’t involve the player singing at all, which would have been more expected.

Unlikea karaoke-style gameor something similar, this title turned out to be a rhythm game in which players had to mash buttons in time with what went across the screen. What they hit would correspond to their characters' notes. Hitting the wrong button would result in a poorly sung song and failure to impress the judges.

2Hell’s Kitchen

Time management gameshave quite a following, including those related to cooking. However, when you throw Gordon Ramsay in, it starts to get a little strange. The gameHell’s Kitchenwas made to be like the show and even includes Ramsay’s belligerent attitude and insults, which add to the overall weirdness of the game.

Players had their choice of game modes in Career and Arcade. In Career Mode, they try to build up their diner while keeping Ramsay happy, taking tests every Monday. In Arcade Mode, they are required to complete a specific number of recipes in a given period. In either case, failure results in verbal abuse from Ramsay, just like in the TV show.

1The Bachelor

Much like the showThe Bachelor, the game of the same title is all about out-romancing all the other contestants and winning the heart of the bachelor. In the show, viewers experienced the contestants and the bachelor develop feelings based on real traits and valid interactions. Through dates, they learned about one another and genuinely seemed to develop affections.

In the game, it was slightly similar in the fact that there were dates. However, these dates are entirely quantifiable. There is always a clear winner of each mini-game, meaning if the player loses, they get build no connection with the bachelor. This quantifiably is what makes the game weird because there are clear-cut winners and losers for each “date,” making love measurable.
