Summary
In a few months, 2K Sports will release its next installment in theNBA 2Kfranchise, but the developer hasn’t revealed much regarding new features coming to the basketball game. Aside from the news thatNBA 2K24will have crossplay on new-gen consoles, fans haven’t been given much to be excited for. However, it was recently announced thatNBA 2K24’s MyCareer will take a “streamlined” approach for players to focus solely on their MyPlayer game. In other words,NBA 2K24’s MyCareer will emphasize basketball over all other aspects of MyCareer.
NBA 2K’s MyCareer is a major part of everyNBA 2Kgame because it allows players to create their own basketball superstars to dominate in the NBA or in online multiplayer games in The City or Rec Center. MyCareer in recentNBA 2Kgames has been relatively tedious and problematic regarding MyCareer stories, gameplay balancing, and player growth.NBA 2K’s recent announcement is promising for the game, especially becauseNBA 2K23’s MyCareerwas plagued by unnecessary content that made the game unenjoyable and not feel like a basketball game.

No More Irrelevant Features Such As Fashion or Music in NBA 2K24
NBA 2K24’s predecessor,NBA 2K23,included too much irrelevant side content that took the focus away from playing basketball. InNBA 2K23, MyCareer functioned like an RPG with side quests for players to complete in order to unlock new gear/clothing, boost popularity, and earn some VC or endorsements. Players would have to navigate aroundNBA 2K23’s needlessly large Cityto interact with NPCs to progress through quests in which players are forced to become rappers, fashion icons, or media personalities.
Thankfully, withNBA 2K’s recent announcement,NBA 2K24should break the streak of MyCareers infested with extra content. Players might be looking forward to the absence of music or fashion-related missions, especially considering that they didn’t really help players upgrade theirMyPlayers' basketball ratings. Although, ifNBA 2K24should incorporate some non-basketball aspects into the game, they shouldn’t be taking up a lot of players' time and effort. Some players might have enjoyed the side content, but not all players should be forced to play them.

NBA 2K24’s Detachment from Non-Basketball Content Should Mean More Focus on Gameplay
SinceNBA 2K24’s MyCareer will prioritize basketball over inessential content, it’s possible that the developer will invest more effort and resources intoNBA 2K24’s gameplay. Hopefully, it will mean the quality of the game improves compared to the previousNBA 2Kgames. What that could be remains to be seen, but extra eyes on core content never hurt anyone.
No game is ever perfect, and anyone expecting that from NBA 2K24 is setting themselves up for disappointment. However, this announcement for more streamlined content definitely bodes well for this entry in comparison to past ones. As for the specifics of whatNBA 2Kcan focus on, players might be anticipating better gameplay, improved MyPlayer build system, and fewer glitches and bugs. MaybeNBA 2K24will finally have a revamped VC system, asNBA 2K23’s VC system was very problematicregarding cosmetics and upgrading attributes. For now, fans will have to wait until the developer releases new trailers or news.
NBA 2K24launches September 8 on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
