Anyone who spends any amount of time playing games in the ‘soulslike’ genre will likely be aware that many of them enjoy finding interesting and unique ways to tell their narrative. From unique or strange NPCs, to well-hidden lore, this genre clearly revels in trusting the player to seek out the story, as opposed to force-feeding it through cutscenes and exposition alone. In this sense,Wo Long: Fallen Dynastystays true to the ‘soulslike’ name.

Whether it’s From Software, or an unknown indie developer, one of the most common ways of augmenting traditional narrative delivery is through collectible documents spread throughout the game world.Wo Long: Fallen Dynastyuses this mechanic, spreading 31 tablets through nearly every stage in the game. With each tablet discovered, a little piece of lore is shared, gradually revealing more about the story Team Ninja is telling.
