Evidence suggestsWorld of Warcraftis making a big change to the Trading Post soon, and fans are worried about what that might mean. If the recently-discovered assets indicateWorld of Warcraftis doing what fans think it is, there will likely be significant backlash.TheTrading Post is a new featureWorld of Warcraftadded earlier this year that allows players to collect Trader’s Tender and buy a stock of cosmetic items that rotate monthly. Players can only collect 1,000 Trader’s Tender each month, meaning the flow of currency is time-locked.RELATED:World of Warcraft Reveals June Trading Post RewardsHowever, someWorld of Warcraftfans have discovered assets that indicate this method may change in some way in the future. Icons for over a dozen denominations of Trader’s Tender have been discovered in a recent build of thePatch 10.1.5 Public Test Realm forDragonflight. These assets are reminiscent of what players would find in theWoWcash shop, and the files themselves are named ““interface/store/shopcurrencyoverlay.blp,” suggesting they will appear in the in-game store.
SomeWorld of Warcraftdevelopers who work on the Trading Post have commented about the assets, but aren’t able to reveal what they are for yet, seemingly corroborating they will be used for something Blizzard is still working on. While it is possibleWoWcould be making Trader’s Tender purchasable in the in-game store, there is no way to know for sure until an official announcement.
Needless to say, mostWorld of Warcraftfans are vehemently against the idea of being able to purchase Trader’s Tender on the cash shop. While the new feature isn’t perfect,World of Warcraftplayers have loved the Trading Post’s wide variety of cosmetic options. Many believe monetizing the Trading Post is excessively greedy, and think it would ruin the otherwise popular feature by turning it into a second cash shop.
Luckily, there is probably more to this change than meets the eye. The fact there are assets for every increment of 50 Trader’s Tender between 200 and 1,000, rather than just large, even quantities, suggests they may not actually be for purchasing directly on the store. Considering recentWoWcash shop itemsare being added to the Trading Post later, some players wonder if they are going to advertise how many Trader’s Tender the items will cost when they do, or otherwise let players buy some cash shop items with the in-game currency. Either way, players will find out whenWorld of Warcraftmakes an official statement in the future.
World of Warcraftis available now for PC.
