Summary
Xbox is giving away a uniqueXbox Series Xconsole themed afterDiablo 4that’s only meant to be used as a decoration because it doesn’t actually work. The collector’s item will add to the already substantial list ofcustom Series X consoles that Xbox gave awayover the years.
TheXbox Series X has been treated to a wide variety of custom designssince first hitting the market in late 2020. And while some of those revisions were independently authored by third parties, many were commissioned by Microsoft itself.
The latest such collector’s item was unveiled in the form of aDiablo 4-themed Xbox Series X that was designed in collaboration with British luxury goods manufacturer Takeoff Studios. This unique piece of engineering was directly inspired by The Gates of Hell, a well-known 19th-century bronze cast made by French artist Auguste Rodin, who is widely considered to be the founder of modern sculpture. The design hence envisions theXbox Series Xas the doorway to the underworld, coupling the resulting device with a massive stand meant to house the custom-made console.
While the majority of limited-edition Xbox Series X consoles that Microsoft unveiled over the years were fully functional, that’s not the case with thisDiablo 4-inspired system, which is described as merely an art piece. Due to that limitation, the company is giving it away along with a standard Series X as part of its newly announced sweepstakes. The total value of the grand prize, of which there are two, is set at $1,309.98. Two$499.99 Xbox Series X consolesaccount for the bulk of that figure, even if one of them doesn’t actually work. The remaining retail value of the package comes from the customDiablo 4stand, which Microsoft appraised at $310. Despite that estimate, the stand itself isn’t expected to ever actually hit retail.
For a chance to win one of these collector’s items, consumers in eligible territories merely need to follow the @Xbox and @Diablo accounts on Twitter, then retweet the competition’s announcement post along with the #DiabloIVXboxSweepstakes hashtag. Only public Twitter accounts are eligible to participate in the sweepstakes. The entry period runs until October 30, at 11:59 p.m. PT.
The timing of this unique console’s reveal coincides withMicrosoft’s newly concluded acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The $68.7 billion transaction, completed on October 13, saw Microsoft become the owner ofDiabloandCall of Duty, among many other popular gaming IPs.
