A craftyLegend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomplayer used a well-placed lighting strike to take down a Yiga Clan member mere seconds into their confrontation. The highly-anticipatedThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomfinally launched on the Nintendo Switch last weekend, and the internet has since been filled with clips from players taking full advantage of the game’s open-world format and new item-crafting powers in creative and entertaining ways. Just likeBreath of the Wildbefore it,Tears of the Kingdomlets players explore open world Hyruleat their own pace, and it can be easy to get lost in the sequel’s numerous side activities.

A wide-open game world and numerous ways to traverse it aren’t the only thingsThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomcarries over from its predecessor. The treacherous Yiga Clan has returned fromBreath of the Wild, still intent on stealing Link’s most valued items as he journeys to save Hyrule from the newly resurrected Ganondorf. This band of thieves was the source of many funBreath of the Wildgameplay videos that featuredplayers disarming them with a glitchor sending them flying into the stratosphere with a charged boulder among other things.

It seems things haven’t changed too much for the Yiga Clan inThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, as Reddit user Orikron recently shared a short clip of Link defeating a member with a single bolt of lightning. This scene starts with the hero of Hyrule being approached by a suspicious NPC, one that the player correctly assumes is a Yiga Clan member in disguise. Link throws a metal spear (which attracts lightning) a good distance behind the would-be theft, who makes the mistake of taking a dramatic leap back after revealing themselves. A massive bolt of lightning then strikes, eliminating the Yiga as Link triumphantly walks away.

So far,Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomhas been met with widespread praiseand record-breaking sales figures - even surpassing last year’s similarly popularElden Ringmere days after it first hit store shelves. The vast amount of freedom Link’s new abilities grant him has arguably played a big part in the game’s near-overwhelming success, and producer Eiji Aonuma recently hinted thatTears of the Kingdom’s free-roaming gameplay could become the standard format for the long-runningLegend of Zeldaseries going forward.

The more things change the more they stay the same, and this rings true forthe perpetually unlucky Yiga ClaninThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Just like inBreath of the Wild, there seems to be no limit to the ways Link can get the better of this band of thieves, including calling upon the power of the elements themselves to strike them down before he needs to unsheathe his legendary Master Sword.
